Main idea
We can find the area or space inside polygons by using coordinates and formulas
Polygon
A 2D shape with at least 3 straight sides
Coordinates x y
Show where a point is X moves left or right Y moves up or down
Square or rectangle formula
A = length × width
Parallelogram formula
A = base × height
Triangle formula
A = ½ × base × height
Trapezoid formula
A = ½ × (b1 + b2) × height
Example
Shape is a rectangle length = 3 width = 2 area = 3 × 2 = 6 square units
Quick steps
Plot points connect the shape find side lengths count or subtract coordinates use the correct formula multiply to find area
Memory tip
Think of area like how many little squares fit inside the shape
