II. Observation
a. On the way to athlete while putting on gloves
i. Environmental factors
weather
field hazards
equipment
ii. body posotion
patient on ground with arms raised may indicate spinal injury.
iii. severe bleeding
iv. gross deformities
v. skin color
b. At the athlete
i. check for consciousness
if the athelte is unconscious send someone to call EMS (911)
ii. note time
III Primary Assesment - A
****Don’t Remove Helmet****
A. Check for obvious signs of life
Look, listen, and feel for breath for 10 seconds
Get AED
One rescuer - ratio of 30 compressions and 2 breaths
rate of 100-120 compressions per minute
Two rescuer - ratio of 30 compressions and 2 breaths
Switch when AED analyzes heart rhythm (about 6 cycles)
1. Alert 911 CPR/rescue breathing in progress
III Primary Assesment - B
B. Life threatening bleeding
check for severe bleeding
Control with direct pressure and pressure points
Brachial and femoral arteries
