What's heating?
Energy transfer due to a temperature difference.
What's thermal equilibrium
Thermal equilibrium is the state where two or more objects in thermal contact have the same temperature. Consequently, there is no net transfer of thermal energy between them.
What are the two types of heating?
Heating by particles and heating by radiation
What's heating by particks?
When energy is transferred from objects whose particles are moving at higher average speeds to particles whose objects are moving at lower average speeds due to the particles randomly colliding due to their temperature.
What's heating by radiation?
When energy is transferred by em radiation from an object at a higher temperature to an object with a lower temperature.
Why do the particles in a hotter object have a higher line tic energy than a cooler object.
Because the particles inside vibrate more
How does a hotter object transfer energy to a cooler object.
. Hotter object has greater mean kinetic energy
High energy particles from the hotter objet collide with the low energy particles from the cooler object
Energy is transfered
This happens in multiple collisions causing the mean kinetic energy in the hotter object to decrease and In the cooler object to increase
this happens until both objects reach thermal equilibrium and no more net energy is transferred between the objects and the mean particle kinetic energy is the same
What is temperature?
A physical property that determine the direction of net flow of thermal energy between two bodies in thermal contact
What is heat?
Transfer of energy due to a temperature difference
What's the SI unit for temperature?
Kelvin
What's zero kelvin also known as?
Absolute zero
Now much is zero kelvin?
-273.15°C
How do you convert from degree Celsius to kelvin
K = °C + 273.15
What's the change in °C the same as?
Change in kelvin
