Molecules that come in pairs for stability (hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, and all halogens)

What is a mole?

A unit of measurement, the amount of substance that contains avogradro’s constant of particles

What is avogadros constant?

6.02 × 10²³

What is molar mass?

The mass in g of one mole of a substance.

Unit: g mol^-1 (g/mol)

What is relative atomic mass?

The weighted mean mass of an atom of an element relative to 1/12th of the mass of an atom of Carbon 12

What is 1mg in grams?

0.001g

What is 1 tonne in grams?

1,000,000g

What is a prefix?

Something you put before a unit to make the unit larger

E.g Kilo Metre

Kilo = prefix

Metre = unit

What do you need to do in most formulas when you have a prefix involved in the units?

Remove the prefix

Unless it’s mass (Kg) then leave it in Kg

What is the equation for force involving mass and acceleration?

Mass x acceleration = force

What is the equation for weight?

Mass x gravity = weight

What is the equation for acceleration?

Acceleration = speed/time

What is a derived unit?

A unit which is not an SI based unit but can be expressed as one

What is the method for expressing something in derived units (SI based)?

1) write formula down for the quantity

2) break down the formula until it only has SI base quantities in it

3) put the units in
