Intermolecular Forces (IMFA)
Forces of attraction or repulsion between neighboring particles such as molecules or atoms.
Cohesive Forces
The forces that hold molecules of the same substance together.
Meniscus
The curved surface of a liquid in a container, often seen in graduated cylinders.
Viscosity
A measure of a fluid's resistance to flow.
Exothermic Process
A reaction or process that releases energy in the form of heat.
Boiling Point
The temperature at which a liquid turns into a vapor.
Melting Point
The temperature at which a solid becomes a liquid.
Molarity (M)
A way to express the concentration of a solution, defined as the number of moles of solute per liter of solution.
Phase Change
A transition of matter from one state to another, such as solid to liquid or liquid to gas.
Liquid State
A state of matter characterized by the ability of particles to slide past one another.
Low Vapor Pressure
A characteristic of liquids that have strong intermolecular forces, resulting in fewer molecules escaping into the gaseous state.
