An Excel message indicating a cell reference error.

absolute cell reference

A cell reference that does not change when the formula containing that reference is moved to a new location.

category name

A range that identifies the major groups for a chart.

chart element

A part of a chart, such as its title or legend, which you can add, remove, or modify.

clustered column chart

A column chart that displays data values in side-by-side columns.

data label

Descriptive text that identifies the numeric value of the data marker.

data series

Data from a column or row in a sheet; the set of values represented in a chart.

Format Painter

A feature that copies and pastes formatting from one text selection, cell, or range to another without duplicating any data

format symbol

In Excel, a symbol that assigns a format to numbers as they are entered.

freeze

To keep rows and/or columns you select visible as you scroll a worksheet.

IF function

A function that assigns a value to a cell based on a logical test.

logical test

The first part of an IF function; if the logical test is true, then the second part of the function is applied; if it is false, then the third part of the function is applied.

NOW function

A function that returns a number that corresponds to the system date and time.

mixed cell reference

Cell reference that combines both absolute and relative cell addressing.

sparkline

A quick, simple chart located within a cell that serves as a visual indicator of data trends.
