Alzheimers
rare under 60, course 8-10. Decrease in ACTH, first signs found in Hippocampus, Neurofibrillary tangles and plaques in brain causing atrophy.
Lewy Body
over 65, course 6-12. abnormal deposits of protein in nerve cells, results in death of nerve cells.
vascular induced dementia
course 5 years. Multi-infarct dementia cause by stroke.
Frontotemporal
common under 60. Nerve cells lose function over time, causes genetic mutation or changes in DNA code.
Parkinsons
common between 65-79. Neurons in substantia nigra become necrotic and die as a result of a decrease in dopamine production.
Alzhiemers (symptoms)
forgetting what they just saw or did.
Lewy Body (symptoms)
psychotic symptoms, visual-perceptive issues, thinking problems, slowed movements, unsteady walking, falls, visual hallucinations, delusional states.
Vascular Induced Dementia (symptoms)
people are more aware of their losses, more prone to depression.
Frontotemporal (symptoms)
changes in behavior and personality, impairment or loss of speech, loss of interest, difficulty in planning, lack of empathy, compulsive or repetitive behavior.
Parkinsons (symptoms)
impaired coordination, tremors, involuntary contractions (myoclonus)
