What are command words and give examples?
Command words are the words that start a question and they tell you how to answer the question,
Describe- say what you see
Explain- Give reasons
Evaluate- Make a judgment
Discuss- Give both sides to the argument
Compare- Say what the similarities and differences are
Suggest- Give possible reasons for why something is happening
Outline- Give the main points
What are Key words?
They are the ‘geography’ that the question is talking about.
How does a choropleth map show data?
It uses shades of the same colour to show the distribution of data on a map. it has a base map showing different regions and areas. Each category is assigned a different shade, this is usually shown by a key alongside the map.
What are the lines called on a grid reference?
Easting line- vertical
Northing line- horizontal
How do you know whether land is flat or steep using contour lines?
Contours close together- Steep slopes
Contours far apart- Flat land
hills usually have a dot and a number showing their height above sea level in meters.
What are line graphs used to show?
they are used to show continuous changes over time
What are bar charts used to show?
They are used to compare different categories, the bars must be separated by gaps
What are combined graphs used to show?
Sometimes graphs are combined if they are showing related but different data, a bar chart and line graph are used for hydrographs (rivers) and climate graphs
