Language is for communication

Language identifies culture
All language change as speakers adopts or invent new ways of speaking and pass them on to other members in their speech community.
Language is dynamic
There is no necessary or natural relationship between the words of a given language and the concepts that they represent.

Communication
It is the setting, circumstance, or environment in which communication takes place
Context
Doesn’t employ formal language. Oral (face-to-face), phone calls, written texts (e-mails, letters). Personal & ordinary situations such as – conversations with friends, family members, or acquaintances about anything under the sun
Purpose & Style
Effective public speaking was an important consideration in the study of communication. They were good at argumentation and debate and speech was characterized by repartee.

Laswell’s Model
Sender → Encoder → Channel → Decoder → Receiver → Feedback → Repeat
Shannon-Weaver’s Model
Conceptualized in 1960. It is probably the most well-known among the communication models. Initially it was called SMCR which stands for Sender of the Message send through a Channel, or medium to a Receiver. However it was modified later to include Noise hence the acronym SMCRN.
