QAQC includes
preventive maintenance
quality control
equipment calibration
in service education
evaluation of new products
Quality control
process by product quality is compared with predefined standards and the action taken when nonconformance is detected
used to improve quality
reasons for QAQC
minimizes dose of radiation to patient and radiographer
produces quality radiographs for accurate diagnosis
reduces overall cost per exam by decreasing number of repeat exposures
Vet techs role
do most of quality control testing, evaluate and recording data
Source image distance
SID check
SID smaller = density geater
SID larger = density lesser
perpendicularity
if the tube head is not perpendicular to the table the x ray beam will cause distortion to the image
Mirror displacement test
light field/ x ray field alignment
if the mirror is displaced, the lighted area seen on the patient is not the same as the radiation going in
PPE
lead products will deteriorate over time causing them to harden and crack
test regularly and log results
Apron
at least 2 exposures (top and bottom)
don’t need to do part that wraps around back
use “R” to indicate lower right corner
Gloves
can do both in one exposure
get entire gloves
indicate left and right with markers
thyroid collar
can do multiple in one exposure
use “R” to indicate right side
don’t worry about back or collar
Goggles
lense needs to be facing tube head (place with arms in the air)
