types of locus of controls
internal locus of control

person’s belief that the things that happen to them are controlled by themselves
e.g. if they did well on an exam, it is due to their hard work
external locus of control
people’s belief that the things that happen to them are outside of their control
e.g. if they did well on an exam, it was because the questions were easy
locus of control continuum
locus of control is a scale that is not fixed
internal is on one end whilst external is on the other
locus of control resistance to social influence
internal LOC are more able to resist pressures to conform or obey as they take personal responsibility for their actions and experiences so they base their actions on their own beliefs rather than others
people with a high internal LOC tend to be more self-confident, more achievement-orientated and have higher intelligence leading to a greater resistance to social influence
