chapman's points are a result of this reflex

•Afferent fiber --> central synapses in dorsal horn à WDR activation

•Results in referred pain

•Sympathetic involvement results in vasomotor changes

•Ventral horn involvement results in paraspinal changes

pathophys of chapman's points

middle ear

-superior aspect of clavicle, just lateral to where it crosses 1st rib

-superior, posterior aspepct of tip of TP C1

pharynx

-anterior aspect of 1st rib

-midway between SP and tip of the TP of C2

tonsils

-between 1st and 2nd ribs close to sternum

-posterior surface of TP of C1

sinusitis

•an anterior point located approximately 3.5in lateral to the sternum and on the superior edge of the second rib; a posterior point located midway between the spinous process and the tip of the transverse process of C2

otitis media

•An anterior point on the superior surface of the clavicle just lateral to where it crosses the first rib; a posterior point on the superior edge of the posterior aspect of the tip of the transverse process of C1

pharyngitis

An anterior point located on the anterior surface of the first rib; a posterior point midway between the spinous process and the tip of the transverse process of C2, on the posterior aspect of the transverse process

bronchitis

•An anterior point located in the second intercostal space near the edge of the sternum; a posterior point located on the posterior surface of the transverse process of T2, midway between the spinous process and the tip of the transverse process
