What is VMax ?
Where the graph reaches a plateau/ the rate of reaction is at a maximum point
What 3 things happen as enzyme concentration increases?
More active sites become available
More enzyme-substrate complexes are formed
More products form , so the rate of reaction increases
Why does rate of reaction increase with increased enzyme concentration?
More enzyme molecules can react with more substrate molecules
What happens when the enzyme concentration increases even more ?
All substrate molecules will be occupying active sites
The rate of reaction is at the maximum possible for a fixed substrate concentration
Why does a plateau occur?
1.Enzyme concentration is a limiting factor ( if there is an increase in substrate concentration)
2.Substrate concentration prevents further increase (if there is increasing enzyme concentration)
What does a graph with increasing substrate concentration and rate of reaction look like ?
