What is general information processing
is a method used to consider how learning takes place => informational processing model can be used to consider how learning takes place => the model contains 4 parts linked via a learning loop

What is input information
the info. Received from a range of sources => senses: hearing = interpreted by the body and vision: used to track the flight of a ball
What is proprioception
how we know how our body = orientated in space => allows us to feel racket or ball + react accordingly
3 components of proprioception
Touch => the weight of a tennis shot
Equilibrium/balance => maintain stability to perform a skill
Kinaesthesis => a sense that tells the performer what position their body is in
What are sensory receptors/ perception
performer will pick out important cues from the environment and interpret these
What is selective attention
process of sorting our relevant pieces of info which are received. Attention passes the info. To the short-term memory which gives time for conscious analysis
What is the working memory model
Proposed by Baddeley and Hitch => alternative for STM => suggests that there are 4 main components which make up the memory

What is the central executive
the most important component it is involved in the problem solving + decision making
Processes information => i.e. a stimulus of a ball coming towards you when in goal
What is the phonological loop
consists of phonological store (inner ear) which allows the sound to be stored AND the articulatory control process/ the inner ear
Images that contain components of a skill => motor program can be used to produce movement
Rehearses words in STM
What is the visuo-spatial sketch pad
stores visual and spatial info. => also known as inner eye which sets up mental images
E.g. a gymnast flight on a vault
What is the episodic buffer
responsible for integrating and manipulating material => has a limited capacity and depends on executive processing
