Whig party (power of Congress, opposed Andrew Jackson). Advocated for mass infrastructure (American system), against father (federalist), corrupt bargain w Henry Clay, against slavery & for abolition movement.

Democrat, Indian Removal Act, Tariff of 1828, Bank of United States, wanted weak federal government, vetoed many bills, racist, crazy, insane.

Democratic. Leadership mexican american war, expanded US west, new territory people wanted to be slave or free state, didnt decide and left it to next presidents

Whig Party. Had to deal with issues from Polk presidency, slave owner, wanted to keep states together so admitted California as a free state

Knowing Nothing Party. Signed Compromise of 1850 (fugitive slave act), controversial for this compromise.
Pierce
Democratic Party. Kansas-Nebraska Act, Bleeding Kansas, criticized for helping American-Civil war
Buchanan
Democratic Party. Not good at securing south to prevent them from seceding, Dred Scott Decision, hated abolitionists, proslavery
Lincoln
Moderate Republican. First president of republican party who disliked slavery, led US through civil war, union preserved, emancipation proclamation, created 13th amendment, assassinated 1865
Johnson
Democratic Party. Worst possible person to serve president post-civil war. Against Reconstruction, pardoned southern states and wanted peaceful transition back to Union. Creator of the Johnson Plan, did not really advocate well for African Americans.
Grant
Prior (Union general who led US to victory over Confederate States). Wanted to serve all Americans and intent was to avoid party politics. Wanted passage of the 15th amendment and to protect African Americans.
Hayes

Garfield
Advocacy for civil service reform, wanted to reduce government corruption. Education for African Americans

Enforced civil service reform, Pendleton act (awarded based on merit), wanted to modernize us navy

Sherman Antitrust Act, admission of 6 different states (more than any other presidency), expanded money supply for positive effect of inflation. Economic still tanking
