What is empowerment
Giving individuals information and support so they can take informed decisions and
make choices about their lives in order to live as independently as possible.
Examples of Empowerment
-Giving individualised care
-Promoting users' dignity
-Putting users at the heart of service provision
-Dealing with conflict in an appropriate way
-Enabling users to express their needs and preferences
-Promoting independence
-Promoting users' rights, choices and wellbeing
-Providing support that is consistent with users' beliefs, cultures and preferences

protected by the laws of the UK

Multi Disciplinary Team
What is MDT ?
A big team of Professionals all coming together to help in a service users care,
Has many different Skills Professionals in different areas
Pros of MDT
-Help make sure they can get the best care possible
-It is a holistic approach- PIES
-A team approach will meet Tom's diverse needs not just his physical needs
Cons of MDT
-Service users may become more confused by multiple professional roles
-Confidentiality could be broken as professionals may share information unnecessarily
-Practically, a MDT may not be possible due to lack of funding
