Right before the word 需要 xūyào (to need)…

You can also add the reason / purpose of the need

我爷爷喝汤需要勺子。

To drink soup, my paternal grandpa needs a spoon.

Wǒ yéye hētāng xūyào sháozi.

我去学校需要背包。

To go to school, I need a backpack.

Wǒ qù xuéxiào xūyào bèibāo.
