Why did the area need regeneration

• Unused derelict brownfield sites which were badly contaminated with chemicals

• 56% of the area was deprived

• unemployment was at 12.9%

• lack of affordable housing and high crime rate

How was it regenerated

• New Stratford link on the Jubilee line opening up greater employment opportunities

• Large amounts of open space for wildlife and residents in the Olympic park.

• created Olympic village which was turned into 3000 homes

• created 50,000 jobs

Success of the regeneration

• 31,000 jobs have been created as a result of foreign investment

• creation of 3,000 affordable homes

• 2.5 billion pounds of investment

unsuccess of the regeneration

• the cost of living has risen in the surrounding areas

• only 1,200 homes from the olympic village were turned into affordable home with the rest being auctioned off
