What is it
Sub-maximal tests to predict VO2 max or aerobic capacity
Termination criteria?
If asked to stop
Ceiling HR reached
Signs of physiological stress
Cannot maintain cadence (mCAFT)
All stages of test complete (mCAFT)
For active and resting heart rate when do the beats get counted?
AHR= 1
RHR= 0
What is the protocol for active recovery
immediately after
Light intensity physical activity
HR taken every minute
3 mins long (if they feel like they aren’t recovered enough extend by 2 mins)
Treadmill- walk on treadmill, walk around the area
Cycle- cycle on no resistance or a resistance less than 1st workload
mCAFT- walk around the area
What is the protocol for passive recovery
seated with flat feet
Continue to record HR every minute
Measure BP at 1 and 3 minutes
3 minutes long
AT THE END OF 3 MINUTES:
-HR & BP should be below screening cutoffs
-if they are not, extend by 2 minutes and remeasure HR & BP
CUTOFFS:
HR: less than 99bpm
BP: SBP= <160 mmHg DBP= <90 mmHg
What is the general procedure when administering aerobic tests?
explain purpose & procedure
Familiarize with equipment
Introduce RPE scale
Ask permission to palpate radial artery
Calculate 85% HR max
Demonstrate and allow practice
Explain active and passive recovery procedure
Record HR and RPE (calculate SSHR)
