De-esser

A solution to sibliance ('“S” and “shh”) being too loud or other instruments that have harsh frequencies.

Reduces just the affected frequencies with compression.

Flanger

Duplicates the original signal, adds very short delay and plays back over the original.

Phaser

Uses filter to create peaks and notches in the signal.

Pitch shift

Altering one note to another. (“Chipmunk” effect in vocals)

Vocoder

A keyboard instrument that controls the porch of a vocal sound.

Pitch correction (Autotune)

Tightens and tidies the pitch of the vocals.

Time compression

Process where the length of an audio clip is lengthened or shortened (faster or slower)

Tremolo/Vibrato

Adds ‘wobble’ to a note.

Tremolo= Change in volume

Vibrato= Change in pitch
