A precise and testable statement about the assumed relationship between variables

How is a directional hypothesis written?

Participants (IV level 1) will be (significantly better/worse) than (IV level 2)

How is a non-directional hypothesis written?

There will be a difference in the (DV) between (IV level 1) and (IV level 2)

How would a null hypothesis be written?

There will be no difference in the (DV) between (IV level 1) and (IV level 2)

How to choose between a directional and non-directional hypothesis?

Directional- if it seems reasonable to expect one condition to be more likely/there is previous research that shows consistent findings
