What is Radiation?
Heat transfer through space.
What is Conduction?
Heat transfer between objects that are touching.
What is Convection?
Heat transfer through the movement of gas or liquid.
What is Power?
The rate at which work is done or energy is transferred.
What is the formula for Power?
P = E/t (Power = Energy/time)
What is the unit for energy?
Joules (J)
What is the unit for power?
Watts (W)
How many watts are in a kilowatt (kW)?
1000 Watts
How many watts are in a megawatt (MW)?
1,000,000 Watts
What are isotopes?
Atoms of the same element with different numbers of neutrons.
How do you calculate the number of neutrons in an isotope?
Atomic mass - Atomic number
What is an ion?
An atom that has lost or gained electrons.
What is the formula for Relative Atomic Mass (Ar)?
Mass of all atoms of an element / # of atoms of that element.
What is 2 electrons?
The maximum number of electrons the first energy level (shell) can hold.
What is an Exothermic reaction?
A reaction where heat is released from system to surroundings.
What are the energy levels in an exothermic reaction?
Energy of reactants > energy of products, ΔH is negative.
What is a wave?
A disturbance that carries energy from place to place.
What is a mechanical wave?
A wave that requires a medium to transfer energy (e.g., sound wave, earthquake, water wave).
What is an electromagnetic wave?
A wave that does not require a medium to transfer energy.
What is wavelength?
The distance between peaks (high points) of a wave.
What is frequency?
The number of waves that pass a point in a certain period of time, expressed in Hertz (Hz).
What is Amplitude?
The distance from the center line (or still position) to the top of a crest of a wave.
