Database
A group of related files.
File
A group of records of the same type.
Record
A group of related fields.
Field
A group of characters as word(s) or number(s).
Entity
A person, place, or thing on which we store information.
Attribute
Each characteristic or quality describing an entity.
Database Management System (DBMS)
Interfaces between applications and physical data files, managing data centrally and controlling redundancy.
Relational DBMS
Database system that represents data as two-dimensional tables, known as relations.
Primary Key
Field in a table used to uniquely identify each record.
Foreign Key
Primary key used in a second table as a lookup field to identify records from the original table.
Non-relational Databases
Databases that store data in a more flexible model, often used for large volumes of unstructured data.
Blockchain
A distributed ledger technology that maintains an immutable and growing list of records shared by all participants.
Business Intelligence
Infrastructure for collecting, storing, and analyzing data produced by business.
Ad hoc query
Users create their own reports with custom queries or searches.
Operational Intelligence
Analysis to help manage daily business activities using operational data.
Location Analytics
Gaining insights from the geographic component of data.
Management Information Systems (MIS)
Systems that monitor key aspects of business and support decision making.
Decision-support systems (DSS)
Systems that support semistructured decisions using analytical models.
Executive Support Systems (ESS)
Decision support systems designed for senior management.
Data Warehouse
Central repository of integrated data from one or more sources.
