Perform hand hygiene and explain the procedure.
• Don PPE in proper order: Unfold the gown (face the back opening), insert arms, secure neck and waist, then put on gloves (ensuring cuffs overlap).
• Provide resident privacy and place a barrier under the drainage bag.
• Empty the drainage bag by opening its drain; allow urine to flow into a graduated container, then close the drain (wipe with an alcohol wipe if required).
• Place the container on a flat surface and measure the output accurately; empty it into the designated commode.
• Rinse and return equipment to storage; record the output.
• Remove gloves and gown using proper technique and perform thorough hand washing.
• Place a call light within reach.
