Asexual Reproduction
A form of reproduction where offspring are produced from a single parent, resulting in genetically identical cells.
Mitosis
The process in which a single cell divides to form two identical daughter cells, each with the same number of chromosomes.
Interphase
The phase of the cell cycle in which the cell prepares for mitosis by replicating its DNA and organelles.
Prophase
The first step in mitosis where chromosomes condense, centrioles move to opposite poles, and spindle fibers form.
Metaphase
The second step in mitosis where chromatids align at the cell's equator and attach to spindle fibers.
Anaphase
The third step in mitosis where sister chromatids separate and move towards opposite ends of the cell.
Telophase
The fourth step in mitosis where two new nuclei form, and chromosomes decondense back into chromatin.
Cytokinesis
The process occurring after mitosis where the cell membrane constricts to form two separate daughter cells.
Centrioles
Cylindrical structures that help in the formation of spindle fibers during cell division.
Chromatids
The two identical halves of a duplicated chromosome, joined by a centromere.
Spindle fibers
Protein structures that help separate chromosomes during cell division.
Cell Cycle
The series of events that take place in a cell leading to its division and replication.
Skin Cancer
The abnormal growth of skin cells that can occur due to excessive exposure to the sun.
