What are ethics?
It is the systematic examination of moral life designed to illuminate what we OUGHT to do
What are bioethics?
The study of typically controversial ethics brought about by advances in biology and medicine
The moral discernment as it relates to medical policy, practice, and research
The study of more commonplace questions of values which arise in primary care and other branches of medicine

Bioethics: The good of your patients
Business ethics: Profits and principles
Health service ethics: Service design, resource allocation, and social injustice
What does deontology mean?
Emphasizes duties and rules
Lying is wrong, even if it would save someone’s life. A deontologist would still say you shouldn’t lie.
What does utilitarianism mean?
Emphasizes consequences from possible actions.
Lying might be considered acceptable if it prevents harm and results in more overall happiness.
