What are the platforms artists would use for promotion?

Websites and social media pages.

What is the purpose of social media posts?

• Usually short written posts on an artist’s own social media account.

• Designed to be easily interactable and to share information with fans.

What is guerilla marketing?

Use of unconventional methods to boost interest in a product, that is often low or no cost.

What is viral social media marketing?

Something that “goes viral” is an image, video, or link that spreads rapidly through a population by being frequently shared.

What is the purpose of social media stories?

• Allows an artist to share a short message with their followers.

• These stories are often time limited.

What versions could singles have?

• Alternative versions.

• These other tracks are often called a “B-side” or “flip-side”, usually the other side of a vinyl or disc.

What is an EP?

Stands for Extended Play record.

What is an album?

• A full length release.

• Used to be called an LP (Long Play records) when they were in vinyl format.

• Usually over 7 tracks, commonly 10-12 tracks.

What is a concept album?

A collection of songs written by a musician or group that is based around a central theme or concept.

What is the purpose of videos?

• The least common method of musicians selling their music.

• This is mostly because they are released free of charge.

What are the best physical formats used by musicians?

• Minidisc must be removed from the list because it is no longer produced (obsolete)

• However, vinyl, cassettes and CDs are still produced.

What is live streaming?

• An artist sends a video feed that is unedited.

• Often scheduled for many fans to announce something special.

What is the purpose of websites?

• A more traditional way of sharing information digitally.

• There are a number of free options that are quick and easy to make a good website.

What is the purpose of social media pages?

• The most popular way for artists to promote their music today.

• This includes TikTok, Instagram, Facebook.
