Right Task

To make sure a PCT is allowed to perform a task by the state or not

Right Circumstances

To make sure equipment is available or if the patient is stable enough

Right Person

To make sure the PCT has the right qualifications and training to perform such task.

Right direction

To make sure the PCT has enough information/understands said information before proceeding with a task.

Right Supervision

To make sure the correct personnel is available in case of emergency

What tasks are out of the scope of practice for a PCT

Administering medications, accepting/processing verbal & telephone prescriptions from providers, supervising other PCTs, inserting & removing tubes, performing sterile procedures, diagnosing conditions, performing triage, prescribing treatments, and teaching patients

Physiologic (priority over all others)

Fluids, oxygen, shelter, food, exercise, elimination, temperature regulation, and sleep

Safety and security (Below physiological)

Helping the patient feel secure and well cared for.

Love and Belonging (Below safety and security)

Taking an interest in patients and showing respect for their care preferences

Self Esteem (Below Love and Belonging)

Giving patients privacy and paying attention to their appearance when performing hygiene. Making sure a patient feels their best.

Self Actualization (Below Self Esteem)

Encouraging patients to set small goals for themselves in their recovery.
