Senior Core Defense
My name is Jayden Sandoval Martinez, and thank you for being my panel today.
In preparation for my senior core defense, I have made this slideshow to show my growth in high school.
This presentation will cover some good experiences over the past 4 years, including academics, social aspects, and overall personal development.
Overview
Introduction, The Self (12th), Progress (11th), Academics (10th), Community (9th), Passion, Aspirations and Reflection.
Each area will have a core value that shows my overall experience at HTH.
The Self- Core Value was commitment
To be committed, one has to stay focused on a difficult task.
Keep on going! Never give up!
Honors math was a commitment because it is a harder and more time-consuming class.
I chose to do honors math because I wanted to try something new, I wanted to challenge myself, and I’m good at math.
Progress- Connections
What are connections? connections are meeting new people and connecting.
When I think of connections I think of baseball. I joined the team in 11th grade, I made lots of new friends/connections.
Joining the team made me open up to new people.
Having these connections changed my high school experience by making school more enjoyable. Having these new friends made me want to come to school more and do my work more.
Academics- Opportunities
What are opportunities? Opportunities are when you get a chance to do something most people can’t do.
In 10th grade, I was able to run the dark room and develop all the photos for everyone.
The teacher trusted me enough to help others with the chemical process.
This opportunity helped me academically since I learned how to develop photos and it helped me get extra credit.
It also showed me that I enjoy helping others.
This brings me to my next core value.
Community- Kindness (9th grade)
To me, kindness is considering other people's feelings and supporting their needs.
In 9th grade, we did a lantern project where I helped others solder their projects.
While I started showing this core value in 9th grade, I’ve used it in 10th, 11th and 12th grade.
lantern project, dark room, helping in math, soldering in 12th.
Helping others has become a strength and a passion of mine.
Personal Passions
My passions include: Baseball, video games, working with my hands and fixing things.
I’ve played baseball since I was 6. I was a pitcher for the mustang league. I enjoyed it until I broke my arm in 6th grade. I didn’t start back up until 11th grade.
Video Games, I like ed playing on a PS3 and xbox360. It was a family activity.
I enjoy fixing things because I like using my hands and I like that I’m good at it.
This led me to my current career interest.
Aspirations- Commitment and Kindness
I’m going to trade school to become an HVACR Technician. My core values will help me in this task.
Commitment and Kindness align with my life goal of owning my own business by helping me get more clients.
By staying committed to my work and showing dedication, I’ll be able to improve my business.
Aspirations- Connections and Opportunity
To own a business I need to make connections and find opportunities such as government contracts and big corporation clients.
The skills I have learned at high tech high will help me communicate better with new people.
Reflection
When I look back over the past four years, I know I have grown in many different ways. Overall I became more resilient. I used to give up, but now I can push on and accomplish my goals.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I think I have grown exponentially over these last 4 years. And I deserve to graduate because I’ve worked hard and I’ve been persistent through all my challenges.
Thank you for being my panel today.
