Colbert

Mercantilism
Economic theory that national wealth is increased by government regulation of trade and production to achieve a favorable balance of trade and bullion.
Luxury goods promotion
State-supported effort to cultivate a reputation for French luxury items (mirrors, paintings, clothing) to boost prestige and economic power.
Luxury standardization
Establishing standards to ensure French goods are perceived as luxurious, influencing international markets.
