Sonia was originally from Krakow, Poland. Sonia and her sister Blanca and Norbert survived the holocaust.

Blanca and Norbert’s wedding was in a dark basement with their family in hiding because no more than 3 Jews were permitted to gather together under Nazi rule.

A zionist is a person who believes in Jews returning to their homeland in Palestine. A pogroms is a violent attack on Jews.

The “old”, the “young”, and the “sick” were taken first. The Nazis believed they wouldn’t be able to work. They were told their work skills were needed.

They knew that they were going to be forced to leave anyway. The Germans wanted to rid Krakow of its “Jewish element”.
