There are five paragraphs to a typical Operations Order (OPORD). However, before you jump in to the necessary information – in either the WARNO or the OPORD, there’s some information you can start with first to help your subordinates get their head in the game from the get-go. What is it, and/or what information should be provided?
Again, the location and status of current Starbucks locations, who in the platoon is going to buy pizza for everyone after the mission is over, and the joke of the day to lighten everyone’s mood before things get real serious.
Uniform and equipment common to all (what to wear), a quick safety brief (ie. Remember to hydrate every 15 min), and remind them to take out pen and paper – prepared to copy (pre-emptive instructions)
A quick AAR (After Action Review) of the previous mission, to freshen everyone’s mind to what went wrong last time; a reminder to check the time zone differences of all potential enemy locations to ensure you’re all synchronized; Issue out all the assigned special teams; and a quick breakdown of each team member’s fitness level, so everyone knows what they’re working with and who to keep an eye on (all the Admin Data).
