Immune Response
collective, coordinated response of the cells and molecules of the immune system
What are the types of immune defenses?
Innate and adaptive
What is the innate immunity?
natural resistance in when a person is born
What is adaptive immunity?
the second line of defense. It responds later the innate but its more effective
What are lymphoid organs connected by?
netwrok of lymph channels, blood vessels, and capillaries
What cells are invloved in the innate immunity?
epithelial cells
How do we develop aquired immunity
through the actions of B and T cells
Inflamation response
bodys protective reaction to injury, disase, or damage to tissues
What are the 3 stages of the inflammatory response?
warmth, pain, and decreased function/ pain at the site
What are the memory cells associated adaptive immunity
T lymphocytes and B lymphocytes
What is humoral immunity
What is IgG
most abundant antibody, activates complement system , and crosses placenta
What is IgA?
found in tears, saliva, secretions and it limits amount of attachment to cells
What is IgM
verifies if blood types do not match
What is IgD
antigen receptor on B cells
What is IgE
Almost in every allergic response and involves in inflmation
What is infection
invasion and multiplication of microrganisms in a body tissues
What is acute inflamation?
short duration last couple of mins to dates
Chronic inflammation
progressive inflamation and keeps adding to it; its much longer depending on tissue damage
What are the white blood cells for inflammation?
granulocytyes, neutrophils,eusophils,basophils, mast cells
What is the thymus?
helps mature the T lymphocytes
What is the lymphatic system?
collects fluid that builds up in tissue throughout the body
What are the functions of fluid?
Help maintain fluid balance, filters and check lymph for pathogens, filters blood of dead and damaged red cells, and produced white blood cell calued lymphocyte
What are the white blood cells?
found in the skin, blood, tissue of the body and they seek pathogens and destroy cellular debris
What are phagocytes?
engulf and digest pathogens and they also injest dead cells
What are the four a major types of phagocytes?
Neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, and monocytes
What is neutrophils?
most abundant white blood cell, protection against bacterial infections, and when they are signaled they leave the blood stream to fight infection in body tissue.
What is eosinphil?
migrate to the sites of infection to destroy parasites and control immune reponse with allergy and asthma
Basophils
contain histamine and cruicial to allerguc reactions
What is histamine
dilate blood vessels
Vasodilation
increase blood flow and make it easier for other white blood cells to move out of the blood stream
What are monocytes
white blood cells found in blood stream
What are the 3 major types of lymphocytes>
B lymphocytyes, T Cells, and natural killer cells
What is humoral immunity?
a specific immune response that involves the use of antibodies and remeber specific pathogens and protect the body when the pathogen tries to come again
What is cell mediated immunity?
a specific immune response that helps destroy abnormal or infected cells without antibodies
