פרק י Chapter 13

בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא יָצָא יֵשׁוּעַ מִן־הַבָּיִת וַיֵּשֶׁב עַל־שְׂפַת הַיָּם׃ 1 On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat by the seaside.

וַהֲמוֹן עַם רָב נִקְהֲלוּ אֵלָיו וַיֵּרֶד וַיֵּשֶׁב בָּאֳנִיָּה וְכָל־הָעָם עֹמְדִים עַל־הַחוֹף׃ 2 And great multitudes gathered to Him, so He went into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood on the shore.

וַיִּשָּׂא דְבָרָיו בִּמְשָׁלִים רַבִּים וַיֹּאמַר הִנֵּה הַזּוֹרֵעַ יָצָא לִזְרֹעַ׃ 3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: "Behold, a sower went out to sow."

וּבְזָרְעוֹ פִּזַּר מִן־הַזֶּרַע עַל־יַד הַדָּרֶךְ וַיָּבֹא עוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וַיֹּאכְלֶנּוּ׃ 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside, and the birds came and devoured them.

וְיֵשׁ מִן־הַזֶּרַע אֲשֶׁר נָפַל עַל־אַדְמַת סֶלַע וְלֹא הָיָה שָׁם דֵּי אֲדָמָה וַיְמַהֵר לִצְמֹחַ מִבְּלִי אֲשֶׁר הָיָה לוֹ עֹמֶק אֲדָמָה׃ 5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth, and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of soil.

וַיְהִי כִּזְרֹחַ הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ וַיִּצָּרֵב וַיִּיבָשׁ כִּי לֹא הָיָה־לוֹ שֹׁרֶשׁ לְמָטָּה׃ 6 But when the sun was up, they were scorched, and because they had no root, they withered away.

וְיֵשׁ אֲשֶׁר נָפַל אֶל־הַקֹּצִים וַיַּעֲלוּ הַקֹּצִים וַיְבַלְּעוּ אֹתוֹ׃ 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them.

וְיֵשׁ אֲשֶׁר נָפַל עַל־חֶלְקָה טוֹבָה וַיַּעַשׂ תְּבוּאָה זֶה מֵאָה שְׁעָרִים וְזֶה שִׁשִּׁים שְׁעָרִים וְזֶה שְׁלֹשִׁים שְׁעָרִים׃ 8 But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

מִי אֲשֶׁר אָזְנַיִם לוֹ לִשְׁמֹעַ יִשְׁמָע׃ 9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

וַיִּגְּשׁוּ תַלְמִידָיו וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו מַדּוּעַ תְּמַשֵּׁל לָהֶם מְשָׁלִים׃ 10 And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?"

י וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם כִּי לָכֶם נִתַּן לָדַעַת רָזֵי מַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמָיִם וְלָהֶם לֹא נִתָּן׃ 11 He answered and said to them, "Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given."

י כִּי מִי אֲשֶׁר יֶשׁ־לוֹ יֻתַּן לוֹ וְיַעְדִּיף וּמִי אֲשֶׁר אֵין־לוֹ יֻקַּח מִמֶּנּוּ גַּם אֶת־אֲשֶׁר לוֹ׃ 12 For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him."

י וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם כִּי לָכֶם נִתַּן לָדַעַת רָזֵי מַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמַיִם וְלָהֶם לֹא נִתָּן 11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

י כִּי מִי אֲשֶׁר יֶשׁ־לוֹ יֻתַּן לוֹ וְיַעְדִּיף וּמִי אֲשֶׁר אֵין־לוֹ יֻקַּח מִמֶּנּוּ גַּם אֶת־אֲשֶׁר לוֹ 12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath.

י עַל־כֵּן מְשָׁלִים אֶמְשֹׁל לָהֶם כִּי בִרְאֹתָם לֹא יִרְאוּ וּבְשָׁמְעָם לֹא יִשְׁמְעוּ וְלֹא יָבִינוּ 13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

י וְהוּקַם בָּם דְּבַר הַנְּבוּאָה מִפִּי יְשַׁעְיָהוּ לֵאמֹר שִׁמְעוּ שָׁמוֹעַ וְאַל־תָּבִינוּ וּרְאוּ רָאוֹ וְאַל־תֵּדָעוּ 14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive.

ט הַשְׁמֵן לֵב־הָעָם הַזֶּה וְאָזְנָיו הַכְבֵּד וְעֵינָיו הָשַׁע פֶּן־יִרְאֶה בְעֵינָיו וּבְאָזְנָיו יִשְׁמָע וּלְבָבוֹ יָבִין וָשָׁב וְרָפָא לוֹ 15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

ט וְאַתֶּם אַשְׁרֵי עֵינֵיכֶם כִּי רָאוּ וְאָזְנֵיכֶם כִּי שָׁמֵעוּ 16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

י כִּי־אָמֵן אֲנִי אֹמֵר לָכֶם נְבִיאִים וְצַדִּיקִים רַבִּים נִכְסְפוּ לִרְאוֹת אֵת אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם רֹאִים וְלֹא רָאוּ וְלִשְׁמֹעַ אֵת אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם שֹׁמְעִים וְלֹא שָׁמֵעוּ 17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

י עַל־כֵּן שִׁמְעוּ־נָא אַתֶּם אֶת מְשַׁל הַזֹּרֵעַ 18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

י כָּל־הַשֹּׁמֵעַ דְּבַר הַמַּלְכוּת וְלֹא יִתְבּוֹנֶן־בּוֹ וּבָא הָרָע וְחָטַף אֵת אֲשֶׁר נִזְרַע בִּלְבָבוֹ זֶה הוּא הַזָּרוּעַ עַל־יַד הַדָּרֶךְ 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

וְהַנִּזְרָע עַל־אַדְמַת סָלַע זֶה הוּא הַשֹּׁמֵעַ אֶת־הַדָּבָר וְעַד־מְהֵרָה יְקַבְּלֶנּוּ בְּשִׂמְחָ 20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;

כ אֶפֶס כִּי אֵין־לוֹ שֹׁרֶשׁ בְּנַפְשׁוֹ וּבִן רֶגַע הוּא וְכִי תִקְרֶה כָל־צָרָה וְרָדְפוּ אֹתוֹ עַל־דְּבַר אֱמוּנָתוֹ יִכָּשֵׁל כְּרָגַע 21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

כ וְהַנִּזְרָע אֶל־הַקֹּצִים זֶה הַשֹּׁמֵעַ אֶת־הַדָּבָר וְדַאֲגַת הָעוֹלָם הַזֶּה וְנִכְלֵי הָעֹשֶׁר מְבַלְּעִים אֵת־הַדָּבָר וְלֹא יַעֲשֶׂה־צֶּמַ 22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

כ וְהַנִּזְרָע עַל־הַחֶלְקָה הַטּוֹבָה הוּא הַשֹּׁמֵעַ אֶת־הַדָּבָר וּמִתְבּוֹנֶן־בּוֹ וְעֹשֶׂה פְרִי תְבוּאָה וְנֹתֵן זֶה מֵאָה שְׁעָרִים וְזֶה שִׁשִּׁים שְׁעָרִים וְזֶה שְׁלֹשִׁים שְׁעָרִים 23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

כ וַיִּשָּׂא לִפְנֵיהֶם מָשָׁל אַחֵר וַיֹּאמַר דָּמְתָה מַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמַיִם לְאִישׁ הַזֹּרֵעַ זֶרַע טוֹב בְּשָׂדֵהוּ 24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field

כ וּבִהְיוֹת אֲנָשָׁיו יְשֵׁנִים בָּא אֹיְבוֹ וַיִּזְרַע זוֹנִין בְּתוֹךְ הַחִטִּים וַיֵּלַךְ 25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way

כ וְכַאֲשֶׁר צָץ הַקָּנֶה וְהַחִטָּה אָבִיב נִרְאוּ אָז גַּם־הַזּוֹנִין 26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also

כ וַיִּגְּשׁוּ הָעֲבָדִים אֶל־אֲדֹנֵיהֶם וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֲדֹנֵינוּ הֲלֹא־זֶרַע טוֹב זָרַעְתָּ בְשָׂדֶךָ וּמֵאַיִן שָׁם הַזּוֹנִין 27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

כ וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם אִישׁ אֹיֵב עָשָׂה זֹאת וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו הָעֲבָדִים הֲתַחְפֹּץ כִּי־נֵלֵךְ לַעֲקוֹר אֹתָם 28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

כ וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא כִּי־בְעוֹד תְּעַקְּרוּ אֶת־הַזּוֹנִין פֶּן־תְּשָׁרְשׁוּ גַּם־הַחִטִּים עִמָּהֶם 29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them

ל הַנִּיחוּ לָהֶם וְגָדְלוּ שְׁנֵיהֶם יַחְדָּו עַד־הַקָּצִיר וּלְעֵת הַקָּצִיר אֹמַר לַקּוֹצְרִים לִקְּטוּ אֶת־הַזּוֹנִין רִאשֹׁנָה וְאַלְּמוּ אֹתָם לַאֲלֻמִּים לְשָׂרְפָם וְאֶת־הַחִטִּים אִסְפוּ אֶל־גָּרְנִ 30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn

ל וַיִּשָּׂא לִפְנֵיהֶם מָשָׁל אַחֵר וַיֹּאמַר דָּמְתָה מַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמַיִם לְגַרְגַּר חַרְדָּל אֲשֶׁר לָקַח אִישׁ וַיִּזְרַע בְּשָׂדֵהוּ 31 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field

ל הֲלֹא קָטֹן הוּא מִכָּל־זֶרַע אַךְ כַּאֲשֶׁר יִצְמַח יִגְדַּל מִכָּל־יֶרֶק וְהָיָה לְעֵץ עַד־אֲשֶׁר יָבֹא עוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וְקִנְּנוּ בַּעֲנָפָי 32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof

ל וַיְמַשֵּׁל לָהֶם מָשָׁל אַחֵר לֵאמֹר דָּמְתָה מַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמַיִם לִשְׂאֹר אֲשֶׁר לָקְחָה אִשָּׁה וַתָּלָשׁ בִּשְׁלֹשׁ סְאִים קֶמַח עַד־אֲשֶׁר חָמְצָה כָּל־הָעֲרִיסָ 33 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened

ל כָּל־אֵלֶּה דִּבֶּר יֵשׁוּעַ אֶל־הֲמוֹן הָעָם בִּמְשָׁלִים וּבִבְלִי מָשָׁל לֹא דִּבֶּר אֲלֵיהֶם דָּבָר 34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them

ל לְמַלֹּאת אֵת אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר הַנָּבִיא לֵאמֹר אֶפְתְּחָה בְמָשָׁל פִּי אַבִּיעָה חִידוֹת מִנִּי־קֶדֶם 35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world

ל אָז שִׁלַּח יֵשׁוּעַ אֶת־הֲמוֹן הָעָם וַיָּבֹא הַבָּיְתָה וַיִּגְּשׁוּ אֵלָיו תַּלְמִידָיו וַיֹּאמְרוּ בָּאֶר־נָא לָנוּ אֶת־מְשַׁל הַזּוֹנִין בַּשָּׂדֶ 36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field

ל וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם הַזֹּרֵעַ הַזֶּרַע הַטּוֹב הוּא בֶּן־הָאָדָם 37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man

ל וְהַשָּׂדֶה הוּא הָעוֹלָם וְהַזֶּרַע הַטּוֹב בְּנֵי הַמַּלְכוּת וְהַזּוֹנִין בְּנֵי הָרַע הֵמָּ 38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one

ל הָאֹיֵב הַזֹּרֵעַ אֹתָם הוּא הַשָּׂטָן הַקָּצִיר קֵץ הָעוֹלָם וְהַקֹּצְרִים הֵם הַמַּלְאָכִים 39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels

מ וְכַאֲשֶׁר הַזּוֹנִין יְלֻקְּטוּ וְהָיוּ לְמַאֲכֹלֶת אֵשׁ כֵּן יִהְיֶה בְּקֵץ הָעוֹלָם הַזֶּ 40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world

מ בֶּן־הָאָדָם יִשְׁלַח אֶת־מַלְאָכָיו וְהֵסִירוּ מִתּוֹךְ מַלְכוּתוֹ כָּל־מַכְשֵׁלָה וְכָל־עֹשֵׂה עַוְלָ 41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity

מ וְהִשְׁלִיכוּ אֹתָם אֶל־כִּבְשַׁן אֵשׁ שָׁם יִהְיֶה בְכִי וַחֲרֹק שִׁנָּיִם 42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth

מ וְהַצַּדִּיקִים יַזְהִירוּ אָז כַּשֶּׁמֶשׁ בְּמַלְכוּת אֲבִיהֶם מִי אֲשֶׁר אָזְנַיִם לוֹ לִשְׁמֹעַ יִשְׁמָע 43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear

מ עוֹד דָּמְתָה מַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמַיִם לְאוֹצָר טָמוּן בַּשָּׂדֶה אֲשֶׁר יִמְצָאֵהוּ אִישׁ וְיַצְפִּנֵהוּ וּבְשִׂמְחָתוֹ יֵלֵךְ וְיִמְכֹּר אֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ וְקָנָה לוֹ אֶת־הַשָּׂדֶה הַהוּ 44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field

מ עוֹד דָּמְתָה מַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמָיִם לְאִישׁ סוֹחֵר הַמְבַקֵּשׁ פְּנִינִים יְקָרוֹת 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls

מ וּבְמָצְאוֹ פְּנִינָה אַחַת יִקְרַת־עֶרֶךְ עַד־מְאֹד יֵלֵךְ וְיִמְכֹּר אֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ וְיִקְנֶהָ 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it

מ עוֹד דָּמְתָה מַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמַיִם לְמִכְמֹרֶת פְּרוּשָׂה עַל־פְּנֵי הַיָּם אֲשֶׁר יֵאָסְפוּ בָהּ מִמִּינִים שׁוֹנִים 47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind

מ וּבְהִמָּלְאָהּ יִמְשְׁכוּ אֹתָהּ אֶל־הַחוֹף וְיֵשְׁבוּ וְיִבְחֲרוּ אֶת־הַטּוֹבִים לְשׂוּמָם אֶל־הַכֵּלִים וְאֶת־הָרָעִים יַשְׁלִיכוּ חוּצָ 48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away

מ כָּכָה יִהְיֶה בְּקֵץ הָעוֹלָם כִּי הַמַּלְאָכִים יָבֹאוּ וְהִבְדִּילוּ אֶת־הָרְשָׁעִים מִתּוֹךְ הַצַּדִּיקִים 49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just

נ וְהִשְׁלִיכוּ אֹתָם אֶל־כִּבְשַׁן אֵשׁ שָׁם יִהְיֶה בְכִי וַחֲרֹק שִׁנָּיִם 50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth

נ וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם יֵשׁוּעַ הֲכִי בַנְתֶּם כָּל־אֵלֶּה וַיֹּאמְרוּ הֵן אֲדֹנֵּנוּ 51 Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord

נ וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם לָכֵן כָּל־סוֹפֵר מַשְׂכִּיל לְמַלְכוּת הַשָּׁמַיִם נִדְמֶה לְאִישׁ בַּעַל־הַבַּיִת הַמּוֹצִיא מֵאוֹצָרוֹ חֲדָשׁוֹת וְגַם־יְשָׁנוֹת 52 Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old

נ וַיְהִי כְּכַלּוֹת יֵשׁוּעַ אֶת־הַמְּשָׁלִים הָאֵלֶּה וַיַּעֲבֹר מִשָּׁם 53 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence

נ וַיָּבֹא אֶל־אַרְצוֹ וַיּוֹרֶה לָהֶם בְּבֵית הַכְּנֵסֶת וְהֵמָּה כֵּן תָּמְהוּ לֵאמֹר מֵאַיִן לָזֶה הַחָכְמָה וְהַנִּפְלָאוֹת 54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?

נ הַאֵין זֶה בֶּן־הֶחָרָשׁ הֲכִי לֹא נִקְרֵאת אִמּוֹ מִרְיָם וְאֶחָיו יַעֲקֹב וְיוֹסֵף שִׁמְעוֹן וִיהוּדָ 55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?

נ וְאַחְיֹתָיו הֲלֹא הֵנָּה כֻּלָּן אִתָּנוּ וּמֵאַיִן לוֹ כָּל־אֵלֶּ 56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?

נ וַיְהִי לָהֶם לְאֶבֶן נֶגֶף וְיֵשׁוּעַ אָמַר אֲלֵיהֶם אֵין נָבִיא בִּבְלִי כָבוֹד זוּלָתִי בְּאֶרֶץ מוֹלַדְתּוֹ וּבְתוֹךְ בֵּיתוֹ 57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house

נ וְלֹא־פָעַל שָׁם נִפְלָאוֹת רַבּוֹת מִפְּנֵי חֹסֶר אֱמוּנָתָם 58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief

פרק י Chapter 14

בָּעֵת הַהִיא שָׁמַע הוֹרְדוֹס טֶטְרַרְךְ אֶת־שֵׁמַע יֵשׁוּעַ׃ 1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־עֲבָדָיו הֲלֹא הוּא יוֹחָנָן הַמְטַבֵּל הוּא קָם מִן־הַמֵּתִים עַל־כֵּן גָּבְרָה יָדוֹ לַעֲשׂוֹת נִפְלָאוֹת׃ 2 And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

כִּי הוֹרְדוֹס תָּפַשׂ אֶת־יוֹחָנָן וַיַּאַסְרֵהוּ וְנָתוֹן אֹתוֹ בַּמִּשְׁמָר עַל־דְּבַר הוֹרוֹדְיָה אֵשֶׁת פִּילִפּוֹס אָחִיו׃ 3 For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.

כִּי הוֹכִיחוֹ יוֹחָנָן בְּאָמְרוֹ לֹא כַתּוֹרָה לָקַחַת אֹתָהּ לְךָ לְאִשָּׁה׃ 4 For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

וַיְבַקֵּשׁ הֲמִיתוֹ אֶפֶס כִּי יָרֵא אֶת־הָעָם אֲשֶׁר חִשְּׁבוּ אֹתוֹ לְנָבִיא׃ 5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

וַיְהִי בְּיוֹם הֻלֶּדֶת אֶת־הוֹרְדוֹס וַתִּרְקֹד בַּת־הוֹרוֹדְיָה בְּמָחוֹל לִפְנֵיהֶם וַתִּיטַב בְּעֵינֵי הוֹרְדוֹס׃ 6 But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

וּבִגְלַל הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה נִשְׁבַּע לָתֶת־לָהּ כָּל־אֲשֶׁר תִּשְׁאַל מִמֶּנּוּ׃ 7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.

וְהִיא כַּאֲשֶׁר שׂוּמָה בְּפִיהָ מֵאִמָּהּ אָמְרָה אֵלָיו תְּנָה־לִּי בַּזֶּה בַּסֵּפֶל אֶת־רֹאשׁ יוֹחָנָן הַמְטַבֵּל׃ 8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

וַיֵּצֶר לַמֶּלֶךְ מְאֹד וְאַךְ בַּעֲבוּר שְׁבוּעָתוֹ וְהַיֹּשְׁבִים בִּמְסִבּוֹ צִוָּה לְתִתּוֹ לָהּ׃ 9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.

וַיִּשְׁלַח וַיִּשָּׂא אֶת־רֹאשׁ יוֹחָנָן מֵעָלָיו בַּמִּשְׁמָר׃ 10 And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

י וַיּוּבָא אֶת־רֹאשׁוֹ בַּסֵּפֶל וַיִּנָּתֵן לִידֵי הַנַּעֲרָה וְהִיא הֱבִיאַתְהוּ אֶל־אִמָּהּ׃ 11 And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.

י וַיָּבֹאוּ תַלְמִידָיו וַיִּשְׂאוּ אֶת־הֶחָלָל וַיִּקְבְּרֻהוּ וַיָּבֹאוּ וַיַּגִּידוּ לְיֵשׁוּעַ׃ 12 And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

י כִּשְׁמֹעַ יֵשׁוּעַ אֶת־הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה וַיַּעֲבֹר מִשָּׁם בָּאֳנִיָּה וַיָּבֹא אֶל־מָקוֹם שָׁמֵם לְבַדּוֹ וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ הֲמוֹן הָעָם וַיֵּלְכוּ אַחֲרָיו מִן־הֶעָרִים דֶּרֶךְ הַיַּבָּשָׁה׃ 13 When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

י וַיֵּצֵא יֵשׁוּעַ וַיַּרְא הֲמוֹן עַם־רָב וְרַחֲמָיו נִכְמְרוּ עֲלֵיהֶם וַיִּרְפָּא אֶת־חוֹלֵיהֶם׃ 14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

ט וַיְהִי לִפְנוֹת־עֶרֶב וַיִּגְּשׁוּ אֵלָיו תַּלְמִידָיו וַיֹּאמְרוּ הַמָּקוֹם שָׁמֵם וְהַיּוֹם רַד מְאֹד שַׁלַּח אֶת־הֲמוֹן הָעָם וְיֵלְכוּ אֶל־הַכְּפָרִים לִקְנוֹת לָהֶם אֹכֶל׃ 15 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

ט וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם יֵשׁוּעַ לֹא הֻטַּל עֲלֵיהֶם לָלֶכֶת לִקְנוֹת תְּנוּ לָהֶם אַתֶּם לֶאֱכֹל׃ 16 But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

י וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵלָיו לֹא־נִמְצָא אִתָּנוּ פֹּה כִּי אִם־חָמֵשׁ כִּכְּרוֹת־לֶחֶם וְדָגִים שְׁנָיִם׃ 17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

י וַיֹּאמַר הֲבִיאוּם אֵלַי הֵנָּה׃ 18 He said, Bring them hither to me.

י וַיְצַו אֶת־הֲמוֹן הָעָם לָשֶׁבֶת שָׁם בִּנְאוֹת דֶּשֶׁא וַיִּקַּח אֶת־חֲמֵשֶׁת הַלֶּחֶם וְאֶת־שְׁנֵי־הַדָּגִים וַיִּשָּׂא עֵינָיו לַמָּרוֹם וַיְבָרֶךְ וַיִּפְרֹס וַיִּתֵּן אֶת־הַלֶּחֶם אֶל־הַתַּלְמִידִים וְהַתַּלְמִידִים אֶל־הֲמוֹן הָעָם׃ 19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

וַיֹּאכְלוּ כֻלָּם וַיִּשְׂבָּעוּ וַיִּשְׂאוּ אֶת־הַפְּתוֹתִים הַנּוֹתָרִים שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר סַלִּים מְלֵאִים׃ 20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

כ וְהָאֹכְלִים הָיוּ כַּחֲמֵשֶׁת אַלְפֵי אִישׁ מִלְּבַד נָשִׁים וָטָף׃ 21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

כ וַיֶּחֱזַק יֵשׁוּעַ עַל־תַּלְמִידָיו לְמַהֵר לָרֶדֶת בָּאֳנִיָּה וְלַעֲבֹר לְפָנָיו אֶל־עֵבֶר הַיָּם עַד כִּי יְשַׁלַּח אֶת־הֲמוֹן הָעָם׃ 22 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

כ וַיְהִי בְּשַׁלְּחוֹ אֶת־הֲמוֹן הָעָם וַיַּעַל אֶל־הָהָר בָּדָד לְהִתְפַּלֵּל וַיְהִי־עֶרֶב וַיִּוָּתֵר שָׁם לְבַדּוֹ׃ 23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

כ וְהָאֳנִיָּה בָאָה אָז בְּלֵב הַיָּם בְּצָרָה גְדוֹלָה מִפְּנֵי מִשְׁבָּרָיו כִּי נָשַׁף הָרוּחַ לִקְרָאתָם׃ 24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

כ וַיְהִי בְּאַשְׁמֻרָה הָרְבִיעִית בַּלָּיְלָה וַיָּבֹא אֲלֵיהֶם יֵשׁוּעַ דֹּרֵךְ עַל־פְּנֵי הַיָּם׃ 25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

כ כִּרְאוֹת אֹתוֹ הַתַּלְמִידִים דֹּרֵךְ עַל־פְּנֵי הַיָּם וַיָּחִילוּ וַיֹּאמְרוּ כִּי רוּחַ הוּא בֶחָזוֹן וַיִּצְעֲקוּ מִפָּחַד׃ 26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

כ וַיְמַהֵר יֵשׁוּעַ וַיְדַבֵּר עַל־לִבָּם וַיֹּאמַר חִזְקוּ אֲנִי הוּא אַל־תִּירָאוּ׃ 27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

כ וַיַּעַן פֶּטְרוֹס וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו אֲדֹנִי אִם־אַתָּה הוּא צַו וְאָבֹא אֵלֶיךָ עַל־פְּנֵי הַמָּיִם׃ 28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

כ וַיֹּאמֶר בֹּא וַיֵּרֶד פֶּטְרוֹס מִן־הָאֳנִיָּה וַיֵּלֶךְ עַל־פְּנֵי הַמַּיִם לָבֹא אֶל־יֵשׁוּעַ׃ 29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

ל וּבִרְאֹתוֹ אֶת־הָרוּחַ חֲזָקָה וַיִּירָא וַיָּחֶל לִטְבֹּעַ וַיִּצְעַק לֵאמֹר אֲדֹנִי הוֹשִׁיעָה נָּא׃ 30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

ל וַיְמַהֵר יֵשׁוּעַ וַיִּשְׁלַח יָדוֹ וַיַּחֲזֶק־בּוֹ וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו קְטֹן אֱמוּנָה לָמָּה־זֶּה פָּסַחְתָּ עַל־שְׁתֵּי סְעִפִּים׃ 31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

ל וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶל־הָאֳנִיָּה וַיִּשְׁתֹּק הָרוּחַ מִזַּעְפּוֹ׃ 32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

ל וְנִגְּשׁוּ וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ־לוֹ הָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר בָּאֳנִיָּה לֵאמֹר אָכֵן בֶּן־אֱלֹהִים אָתָּה׃ 33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

ל וַיַּעַבְרוּ וַיָּבֹאוּ אַרְצָה גְּנֵיסָרֶת׃ 34 And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

ל וַיַּכִּירוּ אֹתוֹ אַנְשֵׁי הַמָּקוֹם הַהוּא וַיִּשְׁלְחוּ אֶל־כָּל־הַכִּכָּר מִסָּבִיב וַיָּבִיאוּ אֵלָיו אֵת כָּל־חוֹלֵיהֶם׃ 35 And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

ל וַיִּתְחַנְּנוּ אֵלָיו לָתֵת לָהֶם לָגַעַת בִּכְנַף בִּגְדוֹ וַיְהִי כֹּל אֲשֶׁר נָגַע־בּוֹ וָחָי׃ 36 And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
