What is OHIP?
It’s Ontario’s publicly funded health insurance plan, covering medically necessary healths service for eligble residents.
How many principles of medicare are there and what are they?
Public administration: must be run by a public organization on a non profit basis. Accountable to the citizens and government of the province/territory.
Comprehensiveness: includes all medically necessary services. Hospitals should provide all necessary drugs, supplies & diagnostic tests. Services outside of hospital are covered.
Universality: every permanent resident of a province or territory is entitled to care.
Portability: insurance is covered even if you are unemployed, changing jobs, relocating within canada or travelling abroad.
Acessibility: healthcare is available to everyone with no additional charges.

Health promotion: reduce the risk of physical/mental illnesses.
Disease prevention: identify the risk of factors/ealy warning signs of disease. Promote awareness to the public
Detetection/Treatment: diagnostic testing, physical exams, surgery, emergency carem drugs, and therapies.
Rehabiliation: return person to their highest possible level of physical and physcological function.
