It’s Ontario’s publicly funded health insurance plan, covering medically necessary healths service for eligble residents.

How many principles of medicare are there and what are they?

  1. Public administration: must be run by a public organization on a non profit basis. Accountable to the citizens and government of the province/territory.

  2. Comprehensiveness: includes all medically necessary services. Hospitals should provide all necessary drugs, supplies & diagnostic tests. Services outside of hospital are covered.

  3. Universality: every permanent resident of a province or territory is entitled to care.

  4. Portability: insurance is covered even if you are unemployed, changing jobs, relocating within canada or travelling abroad.

  5. Acessibility: healthcare is available to everyone with no additional charges.

  2. Disease prevention: identify the risk of factors/ealy warning signs of disease. Promote awareness to the public
