Where did the Industrial Revolution start?
Great Britain
Why did the Industrial Revolution start in Great Britain?
Britain had natural resources like coal, iron, and rivers, which helped make and move goods.
Its location and resources gave it a good geography for starting factories
What five things happened because of the Industrial Revolution?
1. People started using machines in factories to make things.
2. People moved to cities to work in factories. These cities got bigger, but also smoky and dirty.
3. Factory jobs were dangerous and workers got little pay. Even children were forced to work.
4. Workers formed groups called labor unions to fight for better pay and safer jobs.
5. Governments made rules to stop children from working and created a minimum wage (the least amount of money a worker can be paid).
laissez-faire capitalism
government does not control businesses; people own the businesses and set their own prices
industrialization

urbanization

labor unions

What did Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels do?
They thought capitalism was unfair. They saw that rich factory owners were hurting poor workers. They wrote a book called the Communist Manifesto.
What did the Communist Manifesto say?
It said the poor workers (called the Proletariat) should rise up and take power from the rich (called the Bourgeoisie). Then, everyone would share work and money equally. There would be no rich or poor, just equality.
