When we are being taught history, we often rely on a single assumption that curriculum reflects the full truth because the experts created it.

However, throughout history, we cannot doubt that there is a pattern appearing again and again.

The people who come out on top are usually the ones who decide how the story gets told.

The victors shape the narratives to justify their own actions, highlight their strengths, and minimize marginalized voices.

This is not to blame anyone or to diminish pride on our country.

It’s actually quite the opposite.

We all share the belief that every voice matters, that all men are created equal, and that students deserve an honest understanding of the nation that they inherit.

While we want to protect the students, that doesn’t mean shielding them from the complexity of our nation’s past.

It means giving them the tools to think critically and compassionately.
