“At rest” means

Velocity v(t) = 0

Particle is moving to the right if

Velocity is positive

Particle is moving to the left if

Velocity is negatve

How to find average velocity over a time interval

Divide the change in position by the change in time

Instantaneous velocity

Velocity at a single moment in time

Velocity is increasing if

Acceleration is positive

Velocity is decreasing if

Acceleration is negative

Particle changes direction if

Velocity changes signs

Speed is increasing if

Velocity and acceleraton have the same signs

Speed is decreasing if

Velocity and acceleration have opposite signs
