Psychological Disorders
Disorders that affect the way people feel, think, speak, and behave.
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5-TR)
Establishes criteria for diagnosis, provides a common vocabulary, and allows for communication about mental disorders.
Diathesis-stress Model
Psychological disorders are caused by a predisposition plus environmental stress.
Mood Disorders
Characterized by extreme disturbances in emotional states.
Major Depressive Disorder
An intense depressed state that leaves one unable to function effectively.
Bipolar Disorder (aka: Manic depression)
Alternating between states of depression and mania, with “normal” moods in between.
