Benadryl Indication

• It is used to relieve coughing.

• It is used to ease allergy signs.

• It is used to help motion sickness.

• It is used to treat signs like Parkinson's disease caused by other health problems.

• It is used to treat sleep problems.

Benadryl D&DoU

Allergic Reactions: Oral 25 mg every 4 to 6 hours OR 50 mg every 6 to 8 hours as needed.

Onset is usually 30 minutes, peak one to two hours after taking, with 4 to 6 hour duration

  • Outdoor symptoms

    • Check pollen counts and air quality index regularly

    • Keep house and car windows closed

    • Try to stay indoors when pollen or pollution counts are high

• Indoor symptoms

  • Remove triggers

  • Lower humidity

  • Wash bedding weekly and use dust mite resistant coverings

  • Vacuum carpet, drapes and upholstery weekly

  • HEPA filters?

• Nasal wetting agents or nasal irrigation

Mucinex Indication

Used to make coughs more productive (expectorant)

Mucinex Dosage and Directions for use

IR: 200 to 400 mg every 4 hours as needed

ER: 600mg to 1.2 g every 12 hours as needed

MAX DAILY DOSE: 2.4 g

• Liver

  • Dark urine, tiredness, deceased appeptite, stomach pain, light-colored stools, yellow skin or eyes

• Not able to pass urine or change in how much urine is passed

• A severe skin reaction

• RICE Therapy

• Massage

  • Increased blood flow

• Compression

• Heat

  • Always heat over clothing / towel to prevent burn

  • Do not use in the setting of inflammation

  • Avoid until 48 hours post-injury

  • 10-15 minutes 3-4 times daily

  • Works well for low back pain, muscle pain, dysmenorrhea

  • Do not place heating pad directly over medication patches
