Human geography
The branch of geography that studies how humans organize themselves, interact with places and the environment, and shape space.
Globalization
A set of processes that increase interactions and connectedness across borders, including movement of money, migration of people, flow of ideas, and trade of goods.
Place-based differences
The idea that the same idea or innovation has different impacts in different places due to unique local characteristics.
Fieldwork
Geographers’ practice of going into the field to observe people’s actions, talk with people, and collect data to study geographic phenomena.
Maps
Visual representations used to situate, visualize, and analyze geographic information learned in the field.
Spatial
Relating to space and the arrangement of phenomena across the landscape.
