What is the Internet?
A global network connecting millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks.
What is an Internet Simulator?
A tool that simulates Internet functions to help students understand its mechanics.
What is a Network?
A group of two or more computer systems linked together.
What is Topology in networking?
The arrangement of a network, including its nodes and connecting lines.
What is an IP Address?
A unique string of numbers separated by periods that identifies each computer using the Internet Protocol to communicate over a network.
What is a Protocol?
A set of rules governing the format of data sent over the Internet or other networks.
What is a Router?
A networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks.
What is Redundancy in networking?
The inclusion of extra components that are not strictly necessary to functioning, in case of failure in other components.
What is a Packet?
A small segment of a larger message or file that is transmitted over a network.
What is TCP (Transmission Control Protocol)?
A protocol that ensures packets are delivered in the correct order and without errors.
What is UDP (User Datagram Protocol)?
A protocol that sends packets without checking for errors or order, allowing for faster transmission.
What is HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol)?
The protocol used for transmitting web pages over the Internet.
What is DNS (Domain Name System)?
The system that translates human-readable domain names into IP addresses.
What does Net Neutrality mean?
The principle that Internet service providers should treat all data on the Internet the same, without discriminating or charging differently by user, content, or website.
What is Internet Censorship?
The control or suppression of what can be accessed, published, or viewed on the Internet by regulators.
What is the Digital Divide?
The gap between those who have easy access to the Internet and technology and those who do not.
What is the Application Layer?
The layer that provides services to the end-users and applications, such as web browsing and email.
What is the Transport Layer?
Ensures data is transferred from point A to point B reliably and in order.
What is the Network Layer?
Routes data from the source to the destination across different networks.
What is the Data Link Layer?
Handles the physical addressing and error detection for data being transferred over the physical medium.
What is the Physical Layer?
Deals with the actual physical connection between devices, including the hardware transmission of raw bits over a medium.
What is Wi-Fi?
Connects devices to the internet within a specific area, generally about 100-200 feet indoors.
What is Bluetooth?
Connects devices directly to each other without needing the internet, with a range of up to 30 feet.
What is Cellular network?
Connects your device to the internet and makes calls from almost anywhere, depending on coverage from your mobile carrier.
