Form
The physical body and all physical things. It includes not just our body but also the things we perceive with our senses.
Sensation
The feelings/sensations we experience. Whether pleasant, unpleasant or neutral
Perception
Recognising and identifying things. How we make sense of the world. Helps us to identify and label our experiences
Mental Formations
All mental activities and impulses that shape our actions. Thoughts, ideas, attitudes, intentions etc
Conscious
Awareness of experience and basic awareness of being alive. Allowing us to be aware of the other 4 skandhas/aggregates
Why are they important?
In this belief there is no singular, permanent self but rather what we think of as ‘self’ is just a constantly changing combination of this five components.
The Four sights
Four events describes in the event of Gautana buddhas life which led to his realisation of the impermanence and ultimate dissatisfaction of continued existence
The Old man - The four sights
Made him realise the inevitability of aging and the suffering associated with it. Shattered the illusion of eternal life that he had, prompting him to contemplate thr nature of existence
