Stress

Dysfunctional Stress

Functional Stress
Stress that motivates and prevents failure.
External Causes of Stress
Physical threats, situations, and other people.
Internal Causes of Stress
How we react, our personality, perception, and self-imposed limits.
Type A Personality
A personality type characterized by perfectionism.
Type B Personality:
A personality type characterized as laid back.
Crisis
A circumstance that is out of control.
Pre-Crisis
Stage of equilibrium before a crisis; requires awareness of potential dangers and risk management.
Mid-Crisis
The stage when a crisis breaks out; focus on safety, control, information gathering, and communication.
Post-Crisis
The stage after a crisis; involves counting the cost, learning from mistakes, and preventing future occurrences.
Planned Change
Change that is intentional such as aging.
Unexpected Change
Change that is not expected such as accidents.
Managing Resistance to Change
Resistance to change can be managed by consulting those involved, providing information, and offering alternatives.
