political ideology

What we believe politically.

political spectrum

The range of ideologies that exist across the world. Can be drawn in a line, with liberals towards the left, moderates in the middle, and conservatives on the right

liberals

A type of political ideology which focuses on reform, change, equality, and civil liberties

moderates

A type of political ideology that is kind of in the middle. Might have differing takes on a lot of issues, or might just be kind of in the middle.

conservatives

A type of political ideology that is to the right. They focus on traditional values, morals, and keeping the status quo.

political parties

A group of people with the same political views who come together to get people elected and make the government operate the way they think it should.

single party

A government in which there is one political party, which is basically just a dictatorship because there is no real choice.

Ex: China, russia

two party

A government with only two major political parties. Control often flip-flops between them

Ex:U.S.

multi party

A govt with more than 2 political parties. More choices, but it often requires more cooperation between parties.

Ex:India, Italy

big tent idea

The idea that explains why democrats and republicans attract more voters than other parties. The two big parties cover a large range of issues, with mostly equal focus on all of them, while smaller parties often have one core idea that can be less attractive to voters.

democrat

The liberal american political party. Wants a bigger govt when it comes to economic issues and providing services, but less control over people’s personal lives. Values progress

republican

The conservative american political party. wants a smaller govt when it comes to economic issues, but more control over people’s lives. Values traditional values

third party

Smaller american political parties, usually focused on more specific issues. They can still wield political influence, though they don’t often get elected.

independant

People who don’t associate with a certain political party, though they often lean one way or another.
