Independent Variable
Also known as the predictor variable, it's used to predict the value of the dependent variable.
Dependent Variable
Also known as the response variable, its value is predicted or estimated based on the independent variable.
Correlation Analysis
A statistical technique used to measure the strength of the association between two variables.
Scatter Diagram
A chart that visually portrays the relationship between two variables.
Positive Relationship
A relationship where both the X and Y variables increase together.
Negative Relationship
A relationship where the X and Y variables move in opposite directions.
Linear Relationship
A relationship where a straight line best describes the connection between X and Y.
Curvilinear Relationship
A relationship where a curved line best describes the connection between X and Y.
Correlation Coefficient (r)
A numerical measure that determines the strength and direction of a linear relationship between two variables; ranges from -1.00 to 1.00.
Yule’s Q
A measure of association used in case of two variables each divided into two categories (attributes).
