Tamponade
Condition in which the heart muscle cannot contract and expand normally due to fluid collection in the pericardium.
Arteriosclerosis
Hardening of the arteries with loss of elasticity, often leading to narrowing due to conditions like diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obesity, and aging.
Atherosclerosis
A plaque build-up of fat in the arteries; the most common form of arteriosclerosis.
Angina pectoris
Chest pain on exertion, relating to the pectoralis major muscle.
Primary or essential hypertension
Higher than normal blood pressure with unknown risk factors.
Secondary hypertension
High blood pressure resulting from diseases such as kidney disease and hyperthyroidism.
Malignant hypertension
A rapid onset of life-threatening hypertension, often associated with kidney disease.
Congestive heart failure
The inability of the heart to supply enough cardiac output to meet the body’s metabolic needs due to weakness of the heart muscle.
Nephrolithiasis
Presence of a kidney stone.
Hematuria
Blood in the urine.
Nephrotic syndrome
Involves the excretion of large amounts of protein in urine, treated with reduced sodium intake and medications.
Dysuria
Painful or difficult urination.
Hypoxia
Condition of insufficient oxygen supply to tissues.
Infertility
Inability to conceive after one year of unprotected intercourse.
Amenorrhea
Absence of a menstrual period in a woman of reproductive age.
Prostatectomy
Surgical removal of the prostate gland.
Sphygmomanometer
Instrument for measuring blood pressure.
Electrocardiogram
Recording of electrical activity of the heart.
Glycogen
Stored form of glucose in the liver and muscles.
Nephron
Functional unit of the kidney responsible for filtration.
Hydronephrosis
Dilation of the renal pelvis and calyces due to obstruction of urine flow.
Dysphagia
Difficulty swallowing.
Myosarcoma
A malignant tumor originating in muscle tissue.
