anatomical position
The standard position of the body used as a reference in anatomy, where the person stands upright with arms at the sides and palms facing forward.
transverse plane
A horizontal plane that divides the body into upper and lower parts.
frontal plane
A vertical plane that divides the body into anterior (front) and posterior (back) parts.
sagittal plane
A vertical plane that divides the body into left and right parts.
anterior
Referring to the front or forward-facing aspect of the body, often used in anatomical descriptions to indicate location.
posterior
Referring to the back or rear-facing aspect of the body, often used in anatomical descriptions to indicate location.
superior
Referring to a position above or higher than another part of the body, often used to describe locations.
inferior

lateral
Referring to a position that is farther away from the midline or center of the body, often used to describe locations.

Referring to a position that is closer to the center of the body

Referring to a position that is closer to the surface of the body, often used in anatomical descriptions.
