Today more than half the world practices a religion that can connect to Abraham (Judaism, Christianity, Islam)
Made Two covenants with his God:
First- Led his followers to Canaan (Promised land)
Second- Promised his people he would be devoted to God. He was granted a son and protection for his people in return.
Moses
Helped free Israelites from Egypt and Led them back to Canaan. The difficult journey was called Exodus. It lasted 40 years
Supplied his people with the basic teachings of the Jewish faith.
10 Commandments were given to Moses on top of Mt. Sinai

2nd king of Israel
United all of the tribes under a STRONG central government. Made Jerusalem the capital, Brought the “Ark of Covenant” to Jerusalem
Solomon
David’s son who was known for his wisdom
Built the great temple in Jerusalem to house the Ark of Covenant, it also gave his people a place to worship
Good at diplomacy (making treaties with other countries) and trade was flourishing under his rule.
Why did israel split into two kingdoms?
After Solomon's death the 12 tribes of Israelites fought amongst each other to see who would become the next king. They couldn't agree on the next king causing them to split into two separate kingdoms.
what impact did the split have on the Israelites?
The Israelites splitting into two kingdoms cause them to become weak and vulnerable allowing them to be conquered by neighboring countries.

What impact did the Babylonians have on the Israelites?
King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon took citizens of Judah back to Babylon as slaves as punishment for them not paying their taxes and revolting
Jews were enslaved in Babylon for 50 years
What impact did the Persians have on the Israelites?
The Persians under the leadership of King Cyrus conquered Babylon and freed the Jews.
The Jews returned to Judah and rebuilt the Temple of Jerusalem (Solomon’s Temple)
what impact did the Romans have on the Israelites?
Judah was conquered by the Romans in 63 B.C.E. - it was renamed Judea
At first, the Romans allowed the Jews to practice their own religion and to govern their own affairs. However, the Jews rebelled twice against the Romans. The last rebellion resulted in the Romans destroying their temple and exiling Jews from Jewish lands. The land then became known as the Roman province of Palestine.
