What does AP do to Na+ channels?
causes voltage-gates sodium channels to open.
increase membrane permeability and hyperpolarise axon
why does sodium diffuse in one direction?
Sodium diffusing backwards has no effect on membrane as its hyperpolarised.
More and more Na+ diffuse in, more AP. —>
Wave of depolarisation
As more and more Na channels open, more Na+ diffuse in and more depolarisation occurs down axon.
positive feedback loop
Na+ depolarisation, causes more Na+ channels to open and more Na+ to diffuse in.
